CHOOSING A
TEMPLATE THEME
Choosing a
theme is the first step to creating a customized web page with PixMatrix.
This software comes with over 250 original templates that can be used as is
or personalized according to your needs.
There are two
modes of operation in PixMatrix: Edit and Preview. Pages can only be
modified in Edit mode. In this mode, borders of tables and cells will
be displayed to facilitate customization. To see how your web page
will look on the Internet, use the Preview mode.
o
Open template
While PixMatrix
automatically opens with a default template ready to be customized,
selecting the ‘Choose theme’ button can also begin the process. To browse
the PixMatrix templates, press the ‘Open template’ button. Select a theme
then chose a template by clicking on it. The selected template will
then open in PixMatrix.
o
Color
fill
There are several
options available for personalizing the existing templates. To change the
color of a table cell, click once in the cell then press the ‘Color fill’
button. Pressing the down arrow directly to the right of the ‘Color fill’
button will open a color pallet from which you can select a new fill color.
By selecting ‘More colors’, you will be shown a color wheel from which you
can make your selection using your mouse then pressing ‘OK’. You can create
a customized color by pressing ‘Custom’, selecting a new color, then
pressing ‘OK’. Additionally, you can use the color dropper which allows you
to choose a color by clicking on the dropper button with your left mouse
button and, while holding the mouse button down, select a color from
anywhere on the screen. When you release the mouse button, the currently
selected color becomes the default. Note that the color of table borders
cannot be changed.
It is possible
to fill individual cells or an entire table with colors or images. To fill
a table, click the table border then select ‘Image fill ‘or ‘Color fill’
depending upon your preference.
o
Text color
To change the
color of text, hold down your left mouse button and drag your cursor across
the template text that you want to modify. While the area is highlighted,
choose a new color by pressing the ‘Text color’ button. Additional colors
are available by pressing the down arrow associated with this button.
o
Image
fill
In addition to
colors, many of the table cells and web page backgrounds contain images
especially designed for PixMatrix templates. These images vary and can be
distinguished from single colors by the presence of patterns or more than
one color within the table cell or background. Regardless of which
PixMatrix template you are using, these images can be changed. To do this,
select the cell or page background you to want to modify. To choose a new
image, press the down arrow associated with this button. You can then
remove the image that is there and replace it with a color using the ‘Color
fill’ button, or select ‘Choose background image’. This will open a new
window showing the PixMatrix ‘Background’ folder. Select a new background
by opening a theme folder, clicking on a background, then pressing ‘Open’.
This will change the cell or page ground you selected. Many of the items
found in the ‘Clipart’ folder can also be used with ‘Image fill’.
o
Clipart
Some of the
PixMatrix templates contain clipart in the form of drawings or photographs.
Similar to PixMatrix images, this clipart can also be changed within a
template. To remove clipart from the existing template, click on the
clipart to be removed and press the down arrow associated with the ‘Clipart’
button then select ‘Remove clipart image’ or ‘Delete’ on your keyboard. To
replace the existing clipart, press the down arrow and select ‘Choose
clipart image’. This will open a window showing the PixMatrix ‘Clipart’
folder where you can select a new image. If a template does not contain
clipart, it can be added by clicking anywhere in the template and pressing
the ‘Clipart’ button.
When changing
background images or clipart, it is important to note that background colors
and images can be layered one on top of the other. Some images ending
with a ‘.png’ extension have a transparency that allows the background color
to show through. If an image does not have a transparency then it will
completely obscure the background color.
